New RITUALS for Mom | No. 9

6 May

RITUALS Ayurveda

With so many tantalizing fragrances, ingredients and salves at our fingertips, the selection of body products on the market is endless. And I for one can never get enough. No matter how many I’ve tried or how few I actually keep as staples, I always get excited to try a new formula.

One brand I’ve only just learned about and am really enjoying is RITUALS Home and Body Cosmetics Collection. It actually launched back in 2000 but only came to the States (NYC specifically) last year.

There are so many skus in the line, I haven’t even begun to scratch the product surface. Here’s what I’ve tried and can whole-heartedly suggest for Mom’s Day gifting

The RITUALS Ayurveda Collection! It uses the power of nature’s gifts to find the balance between body, mind and soul. Mom’s senses will be serenely overcome by Indian Rose, Sweet Almond Oil and Himalayan Honey. Pickup the Ayurveda Honey Touch body cream for sure.

If Mom is into lighter scents, go for any of the Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom fragrances. The Foaming Shower Gels feel wonderful, too. Definitely add one to your package—like the Zensation or Hammam Delight.

Check out the Rituals website. The options are endless. Like really endless!

Or stop by Barneys in BH and have them wrap something gorgeous up.  NOTE: While you’re there, check out the RITUALS Urban Samurai collection for Father’s Day–coming up next month!

Valentine’s Day in L.A.

11 Feb

So there’s a good chance that Hallmark did create Valentine’s Day. Still, I don’t get all the haters. Who’s being harmed? It’s a reason to celebrate in an otherwise non-eventful month – holiday wise.

Plus, everyone’s got some love for someone – so here’s an excuse to express it.

sergelutensIn L.A., expressions range from a vintage ring pop to an oceanfront dinner to a sparkly bauble from Barneys. On the sparkly side, the gift options are endless out here. Not shocking.

Picture diamonds, jewels and hammered metals as far as the eye can see. Beverly Hills, Venice, West Hollywood, Studio City, Manhattan Beach, just pick a city.

Must admit that I’m reeeally not a fan of those generic charm bracelets from a certain chain store though. And the commercial about the red love bead and soccer mom charm only make them a bigger turn-off.

Single Heart Bangle by Kris NationsSome of my personal favorites this year actually do fall on the kitschy side – but in a much cooler way. So here are a few fun items that will last well after the cute little holiday. Pick one up for your best friend, co-worker, or yourself.

Disney Meets Barneys!

15 Nov

If you’re in the beauty or fashion biz – or even if you just like Disney characters – you’ll appreciate this video.

Look closely and you’ll notice the cartoons are all famous makeup artists, photographers, editors, etc.

Sarah Jessica Parker (or as my mom calls her, Sarrica Parker) even makes a few cameos.

Plus each peep-toed pair o’ super-limited edition double platforms is signed by the man himself!

Only 20 were made. So if you want ’em (and can afford ’em at $3,995 a pop), strut your mouse over to Barneys.com ASAP.

West Coast Mom-Shopping

4 May

If your mom lives on the west coast, it’s never a bad idea to arm her with too much SPF-type protection. As the weather nears 90 degrees out here, it’s a perfect time to make sure she’s fully stocked.

Consider some of the following ideas for protecting mom’s youthful skin this Mother’s Day

You can’t go wrong with anything from Ole Henriksen – whether you arrange for a day of pampering at his West Hollywood spa, or wrap up a box of his products. If you go the latter route, the Truth to Go wipes are great to throw in her purse for a daily refresher; the Total Truth Eye Crème SPF 15 will become her new favorite product; and the Protect the Truth SPF 50 lotion will her keep her sunspot-free.

For the fashion-savvy, pick from one of Lindsay Phillips’ colorful summer scarves. We love Bristol in Burnt Coral! They’re super lightweight, will keep the sun off her décolleté, and add just the right pop of color to any look.

If mom was inspired by the all the Royal Wedding hats, but needs something a little more beach-friendly, check out Barneys New York. Their Bucket Hat is made in Italy with linen, rope, and silk…and just screams, “Give me sand & sea shells!”  If her style is more Ladies-who-Lunch, check out the Brenda Lynn Panama Feather Fedora. She won’t wanna leave home without it!

Lastly, if mom never has enough room in her purse, consider the Trina Turk “Ibiza” Tote at Bloomingdale’s. Available in a few clear tones, it’s a big, open-top tote that’s fabulous for any summer outing.

Have a Mother’s Day… and here’s hoping you’ve already made a dinner reservation!
