Mom’s Day 2017 Gift Guide

9 May

Showing up to Mother’s Day brunch without a gift is generally frowned upon. This Sunday, show Mom you’ve got her best interests in mind. From beauty to genes, here are a few gifts that won’t sit and gather dust on her shelf.

Makeup:

s1931385-main-LheroIf Mom hasn’t been introduced to BITE lip products yet, now’s the time. Each lipstick and pencil  is handcrafted from only natural and organic ingredients—like fruit butters and Manuka honey.

I love the BITE Multisticks for lips, cheeks, even dabbed onto eyelids. The limited-edition LOVE set makes a perfect gift – with 2 Multisticks (1 rosy taupe, 1 cool plum taupe), 1 sparkly Prismatic gloss, and 1 purse-sized mirror. Available now at Sephora.

Bodycare:melt-benefit_2

Another multitasker is Kopari’s Coconut Melt. Hair, tummy, face, heels – use it head to toe for ultimate soothing, 100% organic and unrefined coconut oil hydration. I also can’t get enough of their Coconut Body Milk. If Mom likes coconut oil, Kopari products are a must-have. Pull one of the gift sets or create one yourself at koparibeauty.com.

I’ve never tried anything from Amore Pacific skincare that doesn’t feel absolutely nourishing and luxurious. If you aren’t familiar with these high performance products “powered by Asian botanicals” and Mom loves wonderful skincare, take a chance on this brand.

Go to a local Aritaum shop or Sephora and work with the consultant to pull products perfect for Mom’s skin type.

Hair Styling:Screen Shot 2017-05-09 at 1.54.15 AM

Give Mom a break from styling her hair on an upcoming occasion. There are so many Dry Bar locations now, one is bound to be near her. Admittedly, I use to question the necessity of these salons. But after one experience in the chair (and a smell of the Dry Bar products!!), I’ve changed my tune. There’s just something about not having to style your own hair.

Anyone else ever experienced a perspiring head from a hot hair dryer, causing your makeup to melt and the blow dry to take twice as long? #FirstWorldProblems, yes. But you are after all reading a beauty blog.

Go to your local Dry Bar or order a gift certificate online at thedrybar.com.

Jewelry:Screen Shot 2017-05-08 at 11.30.28 PM

Looking for less Beauty, and more Bauble? Helen Ficalora has the sweetest pieces. The charms can be purchased separately, and Mom necklaces can be individualized to your preference. Check out the pieces online, or the shop in Beverly Hills (461 N. Canon Drive) and show her just how much she shines.

Mom Testing:

kit-mothers-day.255fdc2c125fMom genes? Yes! We’ve all seen the commercials, but have you ever thought about what a perfect gift it might be for a relative? Consider giving Mom the gift of DNA genetic testing & analysis. Literally show her what she’s made of! You can even opt to add in information about her ancestry.

Order today and get $20 off at 23andme.com.

Happy Sunday to all. May none of us f*ck it up!

Met Gala Beauty: Emma Roberts

2 May

"Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between" Costume Institute Gala - ArrivalsLast night was what many of us refer to as the Fashion Event of the Year in NYC: The Met Gala. This year’s Costume Institute theme was “Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”

Red was fittingly a big trend of the evening, but my favorite was Emma Roberts.

Emma stunned in classic Hollywood glam. Her lollipop red satin Diane von Furstenberg gown stood out with a sleek corset bodice, peek-a-boo lace, and hot pink fur boa. While her hair hung long with an “un-styled” style, her makeup was a mix of vibrant and smoky color.

Makeup artist (and the woman behind her namesake brand) Charlotte Tilbury described Emma’s Met Ball look as, “a dreamy, lit-from-within glow on flawless, pore-less contoured skin, soft, rose-gold metallics on the eyes to make them look bigger and brighter, and sumptuous, fuller, wider Pillow Talk supermodel natural lips.”

Below are some of the key steps and CT products Charlotte used to create Emma’s look:

5 Ways Epsom Salt can change your life

21 Apr

Strawberry_Ice_Cream_Cone_e063520a-2059-4289-9f56-ab7af1012391When you hear “Epsom Salt” you may think of Grandma. But you shouldn’t. Unless she was a Hollywood screen siren once-upon-a-time who knew her sh*t.

I’ve been rehab’ing myself after long hikes or days when I don’t move from the computer, with relaxing salt and oil baths. But here are 5 ways bathing with Epsom Salt can help improve YOUR life today…

1. MINIMIZE INFLAMMATION                                                                                                   Epsom Salts break down into magnesium sulfate when placed in warm water. Magnesium is known to normalize blood pressure and minimize inflammation. Try the delicious Feeling Smitten bath bombs!

2. IMPROVE A SORE BODY                                                                                                             Epsom Salt isn’t the same as bath crystals or Dead Sea salt. They are often used to help improve sore muscles, ingrown toenails, osteoarthritis, and stiff joints.

3. IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP                                                                                                              Soaking in an Epsom Salt bath for at least 12 minutes before bedtime can release muscle tension, relax your mind and improve blood flow, allowing you to sleep better. Try the ME! Bath Lavender Mini Ice Cream bath bombs.

4. REVITALIZE YOUR FEET                                                                                                          Aching feet? Relax in a bath with Epson Salt – or make a little foot bath to help soften calluses and decrease swelling. Try this Lush Foot Soak

5. REDUCE TUMMY BLOAT                                                                                                   Hollywood Trick: Epsom Salt can temporarily reduce bloat! Celebrities like Amanda Seyfried and NBA Cheerleaders have been known to load their baths with Epsom Salt to minimize water weight and help them look more toned before a big event.

Dr. Teal’s Restore & Replenish Pink Himalayan Mineral Soak & Foaming Bath is NEW, and wonderful for a post or pre-event soak.

But whether you use salt, oil, bubbles, or just hot water in your bath… there’s no easier way (IMO) to escape the world for 20 minutes.

Got Eye Baggage?

7 Mar

IMG_3496

Soon after turning 40 (gulp.), I started waking up with lovely not-so-little bags under my eyes. No discoloration really, but visibly puffy lids and under eye bags. Whether they’re hereditary (possibly) or a lack of hydration (also possible), I keep trying to get rid of them. As one would.

The bags improve throughout the day, but I still notice the little f**kers.

Last week, I met Dr. Dennis Gross at an event for QVC Beauty in Los Angeles. He taught me that creams don’t get rid of eye puffiness, but serums can. It’s all about serums, Vitamin C and retinols. Got it. I’ll go into those products further in another blog – as well as Dr. Gross’ awesome anti-aging peel pads!

FullSizeRenderBut while I search for an effective eye serum, I have found a temporary solution. The Peter Thomas Roth Instant Firm X Eye gel is no joke! It really does make a difference when used on fine lines and puffiness.

The unfiltered photos I’ve posted above show my eyes before applying the Peter Thomas Roth gel, and then 7 minutes later, post-application (below). I see a difference, do you?

All you do is shake the tube, squeeze a drop on your hand, then use the angled brush to apply a thin layer where needed. Try to keep your face relaxed and expressionless while the gel sets for 5-7 minutes. Wipe away any excess product after it dries. Use it alone or under makeup.

For those who have issues with under eye discoloration and darker circles, creams help – and there are more makeup tricks. But make sure you aren’t just settling for a concealer. You want to neutralize discoloration with a color-correcting product first. Then apply your concealer, foundation or powder after.

Here’s a breakdown of what colors work best to correct certain under eye issues.

  • Green: Neutralizes dark circles that have a red tint
  • Pink: Tones down blue or purple-hued circles
  • Purple: Covers up yellow spots
  • Yellow: Instantly brightens dark pigmentation

Trying to fix under eye circles and discoloration? Use the suggested color-correcting fixes and check out these affordable options pictured above.
