Clarins

I wouldn’t presume to know what gift you should get your Valentine this year. Aside from some really good generic suggestions anyway.

But if you’re shopping for your friends or sisters …or basically anyone you aren’t sleeping with…I’ve got some not-s0-ordinary gift suggestions sure to make them smile.

ONE FOR ME, ONE FOR YOU

Clarins’ Daily Energizer Lovely Lip Balm creates a subtle flushed pink on everyone and smells like red currant. This nourishing balm is made with cocoa and shea butter, so it feels great on dry lips or under long-wear lipstick.

Clarins’ Skin Illusion Blush is purse-friendly and comes with a mirror, packed powder, and sponge all in one. It comes in three universal shades but I like Luminous Pink for a sweet blushing cheek.

Both the Clarins blush and balm come in exclusive Valentine’s Day packaging and are limited editions.

Milk+Sass

NOT SO KNOTTY

I like these macarons better than the real ones! These brand new Milk+Sass compact brushes are adorable – plus they take out every knot and tangle. Perfect right out of the shower on curly or straight hair, these detanglers fit snug in your palm and even have a built-in mirror.

Such a cute surprise gift for any friend who loves a functional accessoryand French pastry!

BRING A BOTTLEpink-pop_0-copy

No matter what the plan is, mini-sized bottles of bubbly make the night more fun. They’re also extra festive tied to a balloon… or packed with a pint of Choctál Madagascar Vanilla!

Try a sweet festive Stella Rosa (Stella Berry!) or delicious Pommery Champagne Pops Rose. Rosé all day, amiright?

LYFT HER UP

Don’t feel like driving on Valentine’s Day? Here’s one more reason to take Lyft. A select number of riders in Los Angeles will be offered a pretty greeting card from their driver, courtesy of Lovepop. I love these 3D popup cards. They’re based on the Asian art form Kirigami and are actually frame worthy…which isn’t an awful idea if you don’t plan on giving it to someone else.

The cards retail for $8 to $15 each, so make sure to thank your driver.

THE SYMBOL OF FRIENDSHIP

Show your best friend how much she means to you with a gift she can wear every day. The symbolic crossed arrows say that no matter what paths your lives take, yours were always destined to cross.

These hand stamped necklaces from The Silver Wren look perfect with the friendship symbol nestled between you and your bestie’s first initials.

GOLDEN GIRL

Lately I’ve been obsessing a bit over these gold chain earrings by Gabriela Artigas. The people at You’re So Baby in Echo Park are probably getting sick of seeing me swoon over them. I love how the delicate chain drapes down off of the mini 14kt staple.

Grab these luxe earrings for a truly deserving girl this Valentine’s Day – even if that girl is you!

Gifts They Wouldn’t Buy Themselves

5 Dec

minjun bagI LOVE giving gifts around the holidays. Always have.

One of the things I love most is getting people things that they wouldn’t necessarily get themselves. Things I think they’d enjoy, but probably not think to buy for themselves out of “need.”

Here are a few from this year’s list.

For the woman who’s always running around LA, the list of options is long!

That said, I’m a teensy bit obsessed with the patent leather cuteness of this backpack by Harper Ave. It’s sleek, shiny, hands-free, and grown up enough to carry everything from your laptop to diapers. Who wouldn’t want one??

Another idea for those on the run (literally) is the Amopé Pedi Perfect Electronic Foot File. Sounds random, right? Wrong. It’s fantabulous – and it’s bladeless! This thing exfoliates with a roller head, leaving feet free from all signs of hiking and stiletto-wearing damage. Find it on Amazon or most national drug stores.

Stocking stuffers or fun hostess gifts?

The-Royal-3d-Liquid-Lustre-Set-Groupshot2-600x800I usually don’t opt for sparkly eye shadows but this LORAC The Royal 3D Liquid Lustre Set is awesome! Encased in a chic velvet box, the collection includes 4 Limited Edition Shades: Opal, 24K, Rose Quartz & Amethyst. They go on in liquid drops, so they look beautiful alone or over an opaque shadow. Plus, at under $30 they’re practically impossible to pass up. Look for it at LORACcosmetics.com.

33539198_060_b14Royal Apothic has come out with adorable Tinties Lip Butters made with sweet almond, grape seed and argan oils. Encased in a rose gold-colored jar, they make for a beautiful bedside balm. Again, who wouldn’t want that?? Pick up a few at Anthropologie in The Grove and keep them on-hand for charming hostess gifts.

Know a guy who grew up road-tripping with the fam?

original_a-licensed-vw-wash-bagSend him this sweet toiletry bag replica of a 1965 VW van from ModCloth.com! This vintage-inspired classic opens easily through a groovy retractable zip roof. Awesome. And, measuring 6 x 12.5 x 5”, it’s big enough for all his favorite hair products and travel essentials.

When it comes to kids, I generally get them the toy or gadget they want for their birthday… then opt for something their parents will appreciate for the holidays. Here are a few gifts I picked up this year for the cool kids in my life…

For the best nieces ever, I got fuzzy short-sleeved sweaters and mini skirts from GUESS Kids. They’ve got sweet ice cream colors that go great with striped tights and winter boots. The girls will love the short, foiled skirts and festive sweaters – and their mom won’t kill me for buying one more thing from American Girl! Everyone wins.

For your favorite little rugged guy, Joules’ Boys Brushed Cotton Shacket is super LA-cool. It’s lined in Sherpa fleece but looks like a plaid shirt. See above right. Half shirt, half jacket… hence shacket.

That’s all for now. I’ll try to put out a few more gift lists before the holidays are over. So stand by. ; )
